It takes me about ten minutes to make an empty bobbin into a full bobbin, winding them by hand. It also takes me about ten minutes to make a full bobbin back into an empty bobbin, by weaving this cloth (since this piece is about 21 inches wide, so each pass back and forth takes up a much longer length of yarn than making a little five inch scarf would.)
Man, is my arm tired.

My husband rigged up the bobbin winder on my sewing machine by wrapping some masking tape around the pin and removing the small round guide that usually holds the thread bobbin in place. If you guide the weaving thread through your hand carefully and go easy on the pedal it winds beautifully. give it a try if you have a sewing machine, heck, buy a crappy old machine up at a garage sale for super cheap and use it only for winding bobbins! go diy!
