Another scrappy scarf, this time using the Irelande and Chocolate and Robin's Egg blue from previous scarves, and some Chartreuse Patons Wool with a bit of Peace Fleece in Kamchatka Sea Moss.
I did a warp stripe, but it's almost lost in the twill - I swear the weft was open enough when I was weaving it! You can see the angle of the twill is pretty much 45 degrees, so I'm not sure why the vertical stripe is so subtle.
What shows up fairly well is the sort of fade I did to change from blue to chartreuse and back again. I think it really turned out, and makes a cooler transition than just a clean break from one colour to another.
Happy holidays to one and all - I'll be out of town and away from my loom, so the last scarf will have to wait until next weekend!

Rosebud
No longer just a clever reference to Citizen Kane, Rosebud is also a lovely wooly hat designed by Jared Flood for his Fall 2011 collection. (Making that link just reminded me how many other lovely pieces were in that collection. As if I didn't have enough projects queued.)

I knit this hat in a day, back in November. I don't have any of Jared's lovely Shelter yarn, so I used some wool/mohair Peace Fleece I had buried in the stash. This was a skein of Kamchatka Sea Moss, which is a really nice spearminty green with flecks of white and a brighter lime green. This colourway is so beautiful in the sun, and never ceases to make me smile. As for the style, I love it - the cable isn't my favourite for some reason, but it really works, especially with the slouchy garter-stitch body.
I've been wearing this hat pretty much all winter long, and it has kept me warm and smiling, although in recent days I made a couple of new hats, so I have a bit more selection, now.

Quickie Socks
On Boxing Day, my HLM decided to do a little bargain shopping. Since I dislike fighting crowds, I stayed home with my knitting. He surprised me by bringing me home a book on sock knitting, called the Joy of Sox. As the punny title implies, it is a book of great sock patterns by various designers, all orbiting around the concept of s-e-x.

Since I was just finishing up my Raven Swirl socks, I decided to take on something a bit faster and simpler, hence the Quickie Socks.
I had planned to post a picture of the first one when I finished it, but they really did go so fast that I was done the second one before I even got around to posting the first.

For these ones, I used some Peace Fleece that I had left over from a pullover I made years ago (in the pre-blogging era.) One ball of yarn was more than enough for the pair, which is pretty amazing, really. I knit them at a bigger gauge (20 stitches to 4 inches) since I wanted a bigger sock circumference. It was a pretty perfect gauge for this yarn, and after a nice soak and blocking them, they are so soft and fuzzy and ridiculously warm. I doubt I'll fit them comfortably into my boots, so they're pretty much around-the-house socks, but I think they'll be used pretty steadily for the next few months.
